  The Mexican Peso is the official currency, but most places will accept U.S. dollars. Major credit cards are also commonly accepted.

  • Taxis are readily available. You can be transported to practically any destination within town for $2-$3 USD (20-30 pesos), and a trip out to the beaches on the western shore will typically cost from $20 USD on up.
  • You will find agents for car rental services at the dock, usually proactively seeking your business with their offers. $20-$50 USD can fetch you a full-day scooter, jeep or car rental.
  • Much of Cozumel's main town can be covered conveniently on foot. For trips out to beaches or to Mayan archaeological sites, a car or taxi is recommended.
